As one of those people that have been down on their home country on this board, please let me explain my position.
I really do love living in Australia, and am very grateful to the Australian taxpayer for giving me access to top quality medical care when I needed it, and finacial support afterwards.
The point I would like to make is that it could be better and the path that we, now, seem to be on is the wrong one!!!
Because of Political Correctness and non-discrimination, the laws and rules governing us are designed for the Lowest Common Denominator, which, in my mind stiffles the the ability of a talented person to shine.
I spent the last 10 years of my working life in a supervisory role and the number of times I was not allowed to let some-one show their true talent because it may show up others to be unsuitable, makes me want to cry!!! The lack of incentive to show talent, is another problem with our society.
All this sort of thing does, is lower the standard for the whole community and that community must go into decline in the long run!!!
I have no problems with the idea of protecting the weak or the disadvantaged, but not at the cost of the perfomers in the community.
During all this rant, I am not writing about myself ( because I know my limitations and had reached them) but about some of the young people I worked with who could have gone on to do wonderfull things, but were held back by a mediocre society!!
The bottom line, for me, is that we must take responsibility for own actions, and to relinquish that responsibility to others (politicians) is to relinquish our freedom!!!
