I dont know the current situation, but before the rules were that after 3 years you needed to show profit if you wanted to keep your wp.
Answer to the poster correct, but the receipt is however valid for renewals of wp. In the past it could take 1-2 months just for renewal and then shortly after you had to repeat the process. So out of 3 months I only had the wp in my hand one month. (In my case as I renew every 3 months, many have 1 year visa extensions and thus yearly wps)
