As a US citizen, I believe you need you apply for a visa for Vietnam in the US. (citizens of several Asian countries and citizens of Scandinavia are exempt).

I think I have read that you can get entry-visa on arrival for Cambodia, but have to bring passport photo(s) and xx US$; search this site for more info. Otherwise you can apply for eVisa and even use a JPG image as the photo.
