There should be plenty of accommodation when you arrive. Have a look at
The Summer Breeze Hotel Phuket - Home Page its recommended by many members, and it central to all the nightlife.
There are temples to visit, but to be honest, not too much historical stuff in Phuket. Lots of adventurous stuff to do though. White water rafting trip, canooing, bungy jumps, cable waterskiing, shooting range, go-karting, along with many speedboat and longtail trips to other islands.
