Allow me to introduce myself.. although i've lived in Phuket for 2 years i'm new to this forum so hello to you all.

regarding traffic in phuket i couldn't agree more with all your comments. However i think sometimes we must sit back and realise that most of the thais especially in patong are from up north where anything goes on the roads albeit bad etiquette. most of us are from civilised countries where road appreciation and safety are paramount in every day life. Its just something we have to live with but there are so many things i enjoy here more that outweigh the road driving situation.

One thing i will add that bewilders me is the nonsense on patong beach road. The police are all for the one way system to improve the flow of traffic and reduce congestion. Ok fine, so why allow tuk tuks to park all the way down the right lane and even more crazy allowing advertisement trucks to amble down the left lane at 20mph thus holding back all the traffic. I know the tuk tuk mafia boss holds a lot of clout in Patong so maybe thats a difficult barrier to cross but surely there should be some fines impeded on slow drivers such as the advertisers who are basically just a real pain in the a@#e and the main cause for tail backs.
