Places in Thailand often take days to reply..
17 USD is cheap but its not a steal.. Low season rooms are possible in places with maids and pools in the 8k - 10k baht range a month.
If you want to stay one year apply to hull for a non immigrant O visa on the basis of visiting friends and family.. You get a 1 year visa (that used carefully can give 15 months of stay) and you have to visa run each 90 days.
No idea on the bar as youtube is blocked in Thailand and I am too lazy to run a proxy. Karon Beach is a beach south of Patong but if you searched a little first you would know this.
