It used to cost about 2200 Baht to fly, but prices have come down quite a bit with all the competition now.
It is still a bit cheaper to take the train, however. The reason is that you spend the night sleeping, get there in the morning, and save the cost of a hotel room plus the 400 or 500 Baht difference for a ticket. So, if you are on a budget, it might make sense for you. You also save the several thousand Baht you would have spent on BF, girl, and drinks for a night because the train leaves in the early evening. If you holiday is short, then certainly fly. If longer, it might do you good to have a night off from the partying. A plus for me is that I always sleep better on trains! And once I hooked up with a very nice Dutch girl on the way back to BKK and spent a weekend with her. Nice change of pace!!!
