Steve, the guy is just saying he wants to bring toys on his trip over in what would otherwise be empty suitcases...he's not an organisation with trucks and containers full of stuff or with resources I had when I had my 1-man crusade after the tsunami.
Derk, you have several options. Don't know of an orphanage in Patong itself but as Tanman says there's Childwatch which is in the Prince of Songkla University...or there is the Special Needs School head out of Patong over the hill down past Kathu to the junction where the Caltex garage is...turn right and the school is about 400 metres along on the left. You could also take toys to a Wat and the monks would give them out.
As a last resort, give toys to the bargirls who have kids...like nearly all of them! Good for scoring a few points and boosting your "good heart" status with them :-)
Believe me the kids would much rather have a toy than a 5gallon bottle of water as you can see from some of my pics>>>
