60 miles (100 KM) from Phuket, which is why he had to go to Khao Lak, which is north of Phuket and almost a straight shot east of the Similans.
Dive boats from Phuket go out of Chalong, the southern end of Phuket, so as far from Similans as you can get and still be on Phuket.
