If you do go up to Chiang Mai,I can thoroughly recommend the Lai Thai Guesthouse (
www.laithai.com ),Great location,Cheap as Chips - 650 baht a night high season I think,really friendly staff,and guest friendly I believe,although I've never tested that.
This time next month I'll be at the airport,I can't wait!!!
