I have used Thai from LHR a few times and the In Flight Entertainment (IFE) is poor. Old 747's & no individual screens and just 1 movie I think. Food & drink & service were fine. Leg room was OK. Flights have always been full, so no chance of empty seat next to me. I have often used Thai because they have been a lot cheaper than BA/Qantas.

I always prefer night flight (both ways) so Thai or BA / Qantas is best choice for that. I think EVA is midday flight ? So because night flight the poor IFE is not such an issue.

As has been mentioned if Thai air deliver you late from Phuket to BKK for return trip home, they will sort out the next flight. But if you use another carrier I don't know how accommodating they will be. Certainly I have had no problems with Thai air connections for LHR-BKK-HKT route.

By the way that's a great quote you got. I just paid £514 for LHR-BKK-HKT (all Thai air) for November and I was well chuffed with that deal.

Finally you could try China Airways from Amsterdam but I would wait until they have got their in flight BBQ under control.
