Actually, the betta's mating modus operandi might actually explain a lot about how BG developed their own seductive way of putting us under a spell.
The method is really simple.
The female will at first allow the male to be dominant over her.
He will chase her, nip her and dominate her.
When she is ready and believes she has the attention of the male, she will in turn 'attack' him back.
She will chase him, showing her amorous intent.
Then she lures him to under his nest, with her head down and her tail high, inviting him complete the ritual.
When they embrace, both of them go into a trance like suspension, not unlike an orgasm. This goes on for several hours (sometimes for half a day).
When the deal is finally done, the male will chase the female away.
So, now you know BG learnt it from nature after all.
