Skype is probably the simplest.. Gizmo is much more fully featured and if you both have computers and use the service you get free outbound calls to 'registered numbers' buts is a much more complex app due to it doing so much more (voicemails, call forwarding to mobiles, gateways, etc etc etc)..
I find skype is usually clearer then international calls on my mobile..
