If you are worried about losing your PC you could think about getting a high tensile steel cable lock to fit the locking port on your laptop, providing there's an anchor point of some sort in your room. There's a chance that if someone tries to nick it they will drop the LT instead but thats the chance you take. Most people staying in reputable hotels take the chance and the incidence of theft (as far as I am aware, before some peeps start on me) is low. If you have valuable stuff on the machine back up to an external HDD and leave it at home.
Alternatively leave the Laptop at home as there's stacks of cheap internet shops out here.
An amusing ending- only in Thailand. Last Christmas a guy had a laptop lifted from his hotel room on the beach road in a grab/snatch. He left the room door open and an opportunist thief took the chance and grabbed his laptop.Unfortunately ( for the thief!) he forgot the power cable. The guy reported the theft to the police but they just gave their usual indifferent reaction. Later that same day the thief, on discovering he had forgotten the power cable thought to himself 'ahh stupid falang maybe leave door open again'. You guessed it he returned to the hotel and was preparing to gain access to the room when he was caught. The cops turned up and after a bit of 'persuasion' on their part the tea leaf coughed up the location of the laptp and it was recovered. The rueful thief was then transported to the Monkey House.
