I do agree that the figure of 70% in Patong is probably wrong, however in other rural areas of Thailand, such as in the Chiang Mai region, large % of sex workers are infected...why?...because Thai man are not using condoms. Ok you may say well thats not Patong...but where do the BGs come from? The answer...poor rural areas of Thailand. So when they go home for low season how do they earn money?....i dont think they will be getting a part time office job. ....get the drift?
Figures on Bangkok, Pattaya, and Patong (BPP) are going to be very unreliaible and misleading due to the fact that the turnover of women is huge. Figures from the test places are also unreliable, as the % getting tested is small. And besides medical books are not worth the paper they are written. All they show is that the BG was not infected with HIV 3 months ago. Taking into account the number of times she has been subjected to risk since then, they are a waste of time.
You can not go by the National figure of 1.5 %. We are dealing with sex workers who are getting F*cked everyday of the week. Even if they use a condom everyday of the week, you will all know they break from time to time.
I am not trying to put people off. Its just best if people are aware Thailand still has a HIV problem. By doing so everyone can be carefull, and not take HIV back home, and infect people in our home countries. If you dont care about doing this then you are frankly filth.
