In a recent chat with a bar owner (names withheld to protect the guilty ) we were discussing the 1AM 2AM 3AM / whatever closure rules.. He is a bit new to the island and expressed a little disspointment that the 'official' opening of 1AM had not yet been extended formally.. he kind of felt that they had a 3AM promise after the strike to have been legally ratified at the 2nd Nov..
I pointed out it was 2.30 and we were sitiing in his bar and this is the way of Thailand.. They have come through mostly with the promise to leave things alone and even though the 3 am seems unlikely to be ratified legally (my words / thoughts not his) all in all it looked a lot better for the high season. Getting things legally changed would need a loss of face to someone so this was the Thai way.
Anyway he told me that the word was this was to be legally set in stone at some meeting due on the 15th of Nov.. This is the first time I have heard any references to this date but he seemed sure of it.. So any bar owning BM's know anything about this ??
