I stayed at flipper about 8 years ago (?) and it was ok. The Eastany hotels are ok as well and in the same area. Also, Sunshine is in the area and there is another hotel that is popular in the area but its name escapes me at the moment
My preference is the Residence Gardens but may be hard to get right now. It gets some "-" reviews due to its location and perennial road construction out front but once you figure out the baht bus system (takes about 10 seconds of thought) it is really quite convenient. And now that a convenience store is across the street...
