Mr. Imram Ahmad Qureshi, aged 38, a Pakistani national, was arrested by Phuket Tourist Police and charged of acting with acting like mafia, threatening another foreigner of his national and attempting murder. The man wounded a 50 year old man Marmoon Iqbal Butt, another Pakistani and the older man was badly injured. The incident occurred on October 5th at a road side near Patak Villa in Chalong area. Mr. Imram Ahmad Qureshi pleaded guilty to all charges. Pol. Major. Gen. Chuchart Suwannakom said Imram usually acted like mafia and demanded ransoms from Pakistanis who do businesses in Phuket. If the victims objected he would harm them. Marmoon is being hospitalized at Bangkok Hospital in Phuket while Imram will face legal procedures.

More tourist police officers and volunteers are sent to patrol or attend tourist populated locations or residential areas where expats live to ensure highest safety for the high season to come. The Tourist Police Commander of Tourist Police in Bangkok, Police Major General Chucart Suwannakom pinpointed the busy tourist beaches of Patong, Kata, and Karon in Phuket as well as those areas where police received reports of mafia types who harass tourists. He also mentioned the foreign credit card fraudsters who usually hang around Kata Karon areas where police imposed strict checks and led to many arrests. This is also part of the preparation to welcome visitors for this high season to begin in November.
