i am with Minder on this one, i think my wife would be most horrified if it was asked for and i think for the first time i would see her angry, on our honeymoon in phuket last year,there was no problem on that trip.

Hmnnn...this has reminded me that my wife's first reaction when hearing thru me of the whole joiner fee system was: "SCAM" - that was over 500 baht in 2004 at Patong Villa which everybody else says is "guest friendly".
We have never had any problems checking in together but the wife has been asked for her id card more than once by a security guard as we return to our hotel late at night. We laugh it off - the guard is only doing his job - and the wife says she is never insulted cause she knows it is not because she looks like a BG, but because I look like someone who could only get a girl if I paid for her
