Thankfully my first trip to Patong staying in a hotel that had JF's did not stop my darker skinned Shanghainese when we entered. She was mistaken as Thai a few times while we walked around Patong, but the hotel guards at Daveena recognized her as being Chinese.
I would want where ever I stayed to treat all people with respect unless they did something disrespectful to deserve it.
