Rather than give you my opinion I can give you a BG's view of sponsorship.
Background: Rai was a BG I knew for several years in Pattaya. Having learnt fairly early that the best way to have a hassle free night on a bar crawl was to have a girl with you already I fell into a relationship with Rai that was more social than physical - I would bar fine her from whatever bar she was working at, pay her for her time and use her local knowledge on happy hours etc. She had three or four serious sponsors during this time but always ended up back in Pattaya.
These were what I would call "Rai's Rules on Sponsorship": (The words are mine the meaning is Rai's)
Rule 1 - Until you have sent me money for at least 3 months I will not believe you are genuine, lots of guys promise to send me money but never do, those that do only send it for a month or two and then the money stops and they forget about me. Why should I tell someone else not to send me money if I am not sure that you will continue to?
Rule 2 - Leaving any job, even a good one, is easy. Getting back to a good job, a good bar is not. Even if I do, I have slipped in the bar's "pecking order". Leave your job and then come back because your plans failed - where does that leave you in the eyes of the people you work with?
Rule 3 - If I go home to my village then I have lost my job, my things and my room. If the money stops then I am upcountry, no job, no money and now nowhere to live when I come back. This means I must incur debts, money and favors just to get back to where I was when I met you.
Enjoy.
