How do the police control the situation? all they can do is patrol the road after hours but then of course you have other priorities to deal with, so impossible. I read the article about the norwegian that was killed, 3 lads picking a spot that is not covered by Kathu police but by Rawaii police, therefore 15km away from the station. Nice dark, unlit road, with them just sitting by the side of the road on their bikes.
So you patrol the road, and what can you accuse them of? As a local we drive at night but normally by car, we do use bikes occasionally. As a tourist, maybe it should be advised not to use bikes after dark if going so far from your hotel, and advice should be use a tuk tuk..
Comment about America not being the safest place!!! America and here are nowhere comparable, should not even be mentioned in the same sentance.
