all they can do is patrol the road after hours but then of course you have other priorities to deal with, so impossible.
I don't see any priority higher then protecting lives and assaults. So writing helmet tickets is a top priority I assume
I read the article about the norwegian that was killed, 3 lads picking a spot that is not covered by Kathu police but by Rawaii police, therefore 15km away from the station. Nice dark, unlit road, with them just sitting by the side of the road on their bikes.
So you patrol the road, and what can you accuse them of? You don't accuse them of anything. Police presence may deter their activities
As a local we drive at night but normally by car, we do use bikes occasionally. As a tourist, maybe it should be advised not to use bikes after dark if going so far from your hotel, and advice should be use a tuk tuk..
So giving in is the advise and paying absurd tuk tuk prices. And single ladies getting assaulted as well in the past by some these guys. Yes I don't think going alone is adviseable but it happens.
I know there can be no 100% safety here or anywhere else. This is a tourism area and relies on it. Not much being done to protect the interest of their life line. Should be a priority. If not enough manpower the thai government needs up it.
Dodger not attacking you. It gets my blood boiling when I hear/read people being assaulted and killed both falang and thai and not much is being done.
