Midnightsun1, yeah read your reply understand it makes your blood boil but there is emotion in your post and no sensible solution.

How many policemen would they need to patrol every unlit road on this island? then no good just occasional patrolling because they do that now, they would have to employ enough policemen to patrol along the roads every 30 minutes or less, just work out the logistics and cost of doing that. Then ask yourself where else in the world can a country afford to man their officers to this level?

Of course you have to prioritise the service level you can offer with the manpower available. There are any number of other jobs they are required to do, attend road accidents, road problems such as traffic lights failing, lorries broken down, to shop or house breakins, problems with drunks, bars overstepping opening times, not all of these are life threatening but should they do none of these jobs and drive around all the unlit roads on the island incase there might be a mugger awaiting to attack someone?

How about taking on upaid volunteers to assist? well they also have done that with Tourist police, who assist in the less important roles, freeing up more of their time.

Unfortunately most law enforcement all over the world is reactive, overworked and underpaid and Thailand is no different to anywhere else. Crime is lower here than many other places, I for one feel a lot safer here than back in the UK, I get more assistance here than a forigner would back home.

You living here? what are you doing about it? or just complaining that someone else isn't doing something about it? Cos whilst very little driving in my car is not a cop out, it is being sensible and not presenting opportunity. Driving home late at night, possibly the worse for wear drinks wise, is not sensible anywhere in the world.

Yes I do think that holidaymakers should be told about the way to act here, culturally and for their own safety, but honestly think it would fall on deaf ears, as it does now!!
