Concerning the weekend market...Sure, it might be worth a visit...
It can be fun to have seen it...and there are lot of bargains to be found...as well as lots of "pic-pockets" (beware)...
My opinon is that u will need more than one day to see it all... offcourse it depends on what u are looking for. So u might need both saturday and sunday..
Personally I prefer MBK for shopping...
About ur other question..Pat-pong is outstanding for evening shopping...but also a very hectic and too many tourists.
U find some good stuff along the streets of Sukhumvit too...
