Besides the performance of the teams, I was again especially struck by the performance of the referees.
I know it is a dog's job and you hardly can do a good job, but I fear the level of referees is going down month after month. You hardly see any good refs anymore.
For example, I always liked Pier-Luigi Colina. Of course he made mistakes too, but never in a way a game was too much influenced by it.
I notice it especially with British refs. When we see Premier League games here on tv, one often note the way these refs let the play flow. But as soon, as they cross the North Sea, they have a complete different way of leading the game.
A good example was the ref who was in charge of PSV-Fenerbache on Tuesday. It looked like a field hockey game. No flow in the game. A Turkish player was sent off for nothing more than a "yellow card foul", a Dutch player could stay on, where he deserved a deep red card and more examples like that.
Also I believe in competitions like the World Cup, Euro Cup and Champions League is it really time that they start with viseo judges like in Ice Hockey or the Rugby.
What do you guys think of that?
