100% agreement !!
While it is possible to live on very little, it involves living a lifestyle that I would personally not enjoy. To bring that lifestyle up to one that is satisfying is not the bargain basement that some posts or guesses indicate. Also for me one of the appeals was upgrading my lifestyle rather than downgrading my expenditure. Of course a non drinker, whose enjoyments come from hobbies they can pursue or simple pleasures like the beach etc can do far better.
I have written some long posts detailing a normal guys outgoings broken down that can be found. The long story short, 40k is basic existance, 60k is a nice lifestyle without much drink party nightlife budget, 80k and up is pretty much everything covered but if you hit the bars and want to just live like a non stop bangla road vacation then its possible to spend 100's of k per month. Other locations in Thailand can be cheaper than Phuket.
