In Indonesia we soon learned to shake out our wetsuits and booties before putting them on, palm-sized spiders often hid down the legs and once I also dived with a cockroach without knowing it - I dunno if it was dead before we jumped in or if died in the water! I didn't mind the spiders in the huts though because they kept the cockroaches in check. Lots of critters there... if you left fruit out you'd have bats coming in
Here I've only come across a couple of snakes (one of them red-necked fellows there were pictures of and a big black one) and have a four-legged spider living in the second bathroom, I take care not to hoover him when I clean because I feel sorry for the little er, legwise challenged creature...
