Personally I don’t have a problem with this. They own the street and can do as they please. And of course you cannot just say that you want to “pop in” for five minutes. What are they going to do if you do not come back in that time-frame? Write you a parking ticket?
What amazes me more is that they have yet to charge in the late afternoon / night.
More interesting is the “scheme” they have going up in Laem Sing. At least according to some “official” (in the Phuket Gazette), the guys organizing the parking do not actually own the land, but you only pay for them to “take care” of your vehicle. Wonder what would happen if you recline to pay. I’m hoping this particular “scheme” does not catch on. More extortion than service IMO.
