If the airline you are using to travel to Bangkok has a codeshare with the airline you use from BKK to HKT, then yes your bags probably will be checked through.

But my experience has been unless using Thai or BKK Airways all the way through, the bags had to be collected and rechecked in at BKK. It really does depend on the codeshare.

When checking in at your first departure point, the airline staff will tell you where your bags need to be picked up anyway. If not, ask them.
