If a hotel tried to charge me 1,000 baht for a joiner I'd find another place. That's 14,000 baht over two weeks.
I'd recommend a good value hotel which acknowledges the fact that you're paying for a "double room" and are entitled to have two people in it.
I don't like taking any chances with my holiday plans.
- Firstly, I will always book a room for two.
If you book a room priced for one person, you should expect to pay extra for a 2nd adult.
- Secondly, I always question the hotel on their joiner policy by e-mail before booking.
Some hotels will charge various JF's (300 to 1,000 baht or more) to discourage you or they may not allow a thai joiner at all.
Other hotels allow free joiner if you've paid for a "double room", but may charge you 300 baht for the third, if you invite two girls.
Hotels such as The Areca Lodge in Pattaya are terrific in this respect. If you pay for a double room, you can have two people in it, and if your booking includes free breakfast, your joiner can eat with you.
The hotel wants your business.
Asking them their policy will give you peace of mind and allow you to concentrate on having a good time.
Don't forget to keep a copy of their positive reply should there be an issue at the desk when you arrive.
