I had Fugu in japan last year at a pretty flash restaurant, anf they served first cut up fine as sushimi (raw) which was ok, but not as tasty as tuna (especially the belly section called Toro) or some other fish.
Then they served it up in a caserole dish on a hotplate (gas on the table) with the fish still living on its nerves. It had been disected and sliced and the dangerous portions thrown away - evidently as i am still here to tell the tail- but it had been removed from the tank, ans cut up immediatley. The fins and bits were still pulsating.
Not a bad feed, but I think its a culturally acquired taste, as there are definately tastier japanese meals out there.
