Giving you passport away is not only illegal (its not yours, read the notes in the front, not to be given to unauthorised personnel) its also really dumb, the whole balance of power has now shifted to them (and they know it).. why put yourself in a position to be scammed ??

That sums it all up….well said. Have to wonder how many people couldn’t find the guy holding their passport after the Tsunami?
