Now it makes sense to me that the Thai authorities were non to impressed with being branded a safe haven for criminals so have taken action. You can still easily obtain a long term visa in your own country so my theory is the Thais think that if you can return to your own country for the visa then you must be clean, if you cannot then they don't want you here and are making it real difficult for you to stay. Far easier than using internal means to locate and catch the crims.

What are the extradition laws in Thailand? Could they not just change these so that ALL criminals wanted by other countries could be extradited to face the music back home?
