Was there in december when there was a 3 day alcohol ban, we always managed to find somewhere to have a beer, mostly served in tea cups !

Last trip I spent 10 days in Pattaya and ten days in Patong.
Personally I enjoyed both.
The Jomtien beach just south of Pattaya was great. Beautiful sea breeze, chunky waves, dozens of beach kitchens serving chilled beer and the greatest seafood creations.
If you compare the towns, Pattaya is bigger, with what that implies (more of everything). Pattaya also has some great value hotels such as the well regarded Areca Lodge (two pools, large rooms with balcony, lounge bar with big screen, and joiner friendly.
Patong although not exactly tiny, is a little less hectic, but can be packed out in high season. Great restaurants, excellent gym, easy access to Phuket island and generally relaxing.
There are many nice people waiting to be met at both these destinations.
I'd definitely visit both again. It's great to have variety.
Regarding the opening title, if you can't go more than a day without a drink, if the alcohol dries up, any place would be a $hithole.
