in nz you dont have to show when flying domestic, but i just wanna confirm about Thailand.

You can fly domestically without your passport but you do need some other positive ID document, not sure what is accepted but I used my Seaman's book to fly internally. Would check on the legality of being in Thailand without your passport though you may find you are breaking the law by not being able to produce it on demand.
