Here's a sad story....August 2004.
I'm a keen photographer and I was taking an evening shot of the Bangkok skyline from the rooftop of the Tower Inn in Bangkok (20 floors up, I think).
Anyway, I had the camera set up on the tripod. I stood on a chair to look through the viewfinder.
The back leg of the chair broke!
I kicked the leg of the tripod whilst falling backwards and the camera and tripod tipped over the wall. It fell twenty stories to the ground.
I was so shocked, rushed down to the side alley to see the damage. Thankfully it was a quiet area with no one around. That camera could have killed someone, it would have been like a missile, falling from that height.
There wasn't much left of the camera (new Nikon D70, only 4 weeks old, at that time).
It was only when I got back to my hotel room, still in shock, did I realise that my trousers and sandal were SATURATED with blood. I checked my leg and the blood was pumping from a savage looking gash on my shin!
I must have hit my shin against the iron bench on the roof when I fell. The deep cut on my shin was literally to the bone.
I'd been so shocked that I hadn't felt a thing!
I still have a big scar there, but it could have ended up an awful lot worse....
