l think the amount of Sponsorship is not as important as the length of it.......l only see it as a temporary "Take Her Off the Market/Give Her Confidence that you are Serious" measure......You know 3-4 months after your first meeting, until you can get a Visa organised or spend more time with her to see if it's definetely what you want.
Once it drags out for months and years.........well that's somewhere l would never go. Still l guess it works for some people but those folk obviously need to be open minded.
