The reactions on gifts is indeed strange, must be a thai thing. At first when i bought gifts for my girlfriend, no reaction, not even a thank you (also had the "put in bag"
).
This one time i wrote her a letter and gave it to a friend who was going to Patong on holidays. I had 2000bhat from my previous trip, and decided to slip it in the enveloppe aswell. She had the nerve to say it wasn't much i gave.
Had to explain her it was not very polite to not say thank you when you receive a -even the smallest- gift. She now understands, and thanks me every time. She now is at the point where it starts to sound genuine
