They are on a very short leash whilst here, with curfews, etc. Any misbehaviour results in confinement to ship at next port. When U are at sea for 2 months plus its not a privilige one would want to lose IMHO. When I was at Faulties all they wanted to do was eat- 3 or 4 portions and some to take back with them. Not big drinkers like the Brits or Aussies (not that the RN is likely to get a ship to stagger this far around the world again!) and they didn't seem to bring girls past either. The get fairly concise briefings on what is and is not considered acceptable behaviour when ashore. Most of them I talked to were scared sh*tless of contracting STDs after the horror story briefings as it could harm their careers. The better approach was a no questions asked STD clinic that the Brits (allegedly!) ran in HK years ago. All they wanted to know was where and when peeps got a dose, then no further action and anonymous (each case recorded by a number not name.
