There are shops and hotels along the road even some bars, it's a long walk (2-3 km) to the main centre near Green Mango Discoteque, but lots of ''Songthaew's''= bahtbuses ply this route. In the daytime shouldn't cost more than 10 baht, but after dark you have to bargain for the price. You can also take a bahtbus from the main Chaweng rd, behind the beach at Chaweng Noi into main Chaweng beach. Shouldn't cost more than 20 baht in the daytime, but the bus-drivers in Samui are notorious for asking farangs to pay high fares! They are supposed to have fixed fares(they had some years ago),but they will not show them to tourists, besides they are in Thai only! Best way to find out about the fare is to ask some locals before you board the bus, and pay that to the driver, when you get off and then just walk away! Best way to go around in Samui is to rent a motobike for 150 baht per day, watch out for slippery sand on the road though! Think Samui has the highest accident rates among farangs in Thailand!Take care, and enjoy! TJ

Thanks for the info ThaiJanne
So in your oppinion is it worth staying in Chaweng Noi (imperial Samui resort)
or somewhere closer to chaweng proper, i want the option of lots of bars and resuarants close by or within walking distance from the hotel, kinda like beach road in patong, but not right in the centre as i have read that some of the hotels in samui get quite noisy at night (is this true, or is the noise level same as patong).....
Thanks once again
