I agree about the slow response from FEMA but the local government ( city, county, state) was more to blame in my opinion. The big difference if you want to compare the two tragic storms is that the people of Katrina were better informed of the coming disaster yet some refused to leave.
With the infrastructure so different between the two countries maybe early warning to Burma would not have made such an impact many people without the means to escape but I would hope they could of had the decision to make like the people in New Orleans did.[/quote]
While no group or individual can be held respononsible for a natural disaster, I find the Junta highly accountable for the magnitude of the disaster.
LiL mailed me a weather map designed for surfers that showed a very large storm predicted, 5 DAYS before it hit and 20 foot + waves for Burma.
I am no climatologist but that prediction should be enough for anyone to recommend mass evacuation of coastal and low lying areas.
