Would try the window open a tad idea, but its one big sliding window and then outside a big palm tree plantation , with a lot of self erected corrugated shed dwellers on the other side prefer to wake up with a dry throat rather than a slit one ...maybe a bit dramatic but hey shooting and stabbing for 300bht again in Rawai maybe not so dramatic after all .

To be able to leave the door open slightly and retain some security........ go buy yourself a broom handle......... open your door to desired amount (say 20mm)....... measure and cut broom handle to fit into the track between the back of the door and the frame.
This way the door can be closed but not opened!!!!
Just hope you have bug screens!!!!!
