I have often thought that Krabi would be a good retirement spot or if you liked life slower or didnt like Patongs scene.. Personally I shudder at the thought of moving upcountry into 'real Thailand' like I see many expats do after a few years (settle down with the missus and leave the tourist zones).. With somewhere like Krabi at least your able to drive down for a weekend party, yet still have almost total peace and quiet.
In fact you only have to head over to Panwa to see a totally different pace of life.
