Taken for a ride?

OK, so here's the story.

I live in Australia.
In June 2007 I met a Thai girl here.
She was 21. I was 36 and in a longterm relationship.
She was studying English at a local language school.
I was professionally employed.

Anyway.. We got along very well. Became very good friends.
About 2weeks later she told me that she's actually married to
another guy here in Australia.
She met him a year earlier in Thailand, he payed and brought here
out here and got married to keep her in the country.

Since June 2007 the following has happened.
She has left her husband, I left my partner.
We went to Thailand for a vacation together.
We moved in together and are now renting while we build a new home.
We are also looking at opening our own business. (Restaurant)

I have checked through everything she has,
email accounts, bank accounts, personal belongings ...etc
there is NO other evidence of a sordid past or anything like that.

I DO know that she worked in a massage parlor in BKK from Feb-June06
where she met the guy who eventually married her.
She no longer keeps contact with him.

So, how do you guys see this situation?
Am I just another westerner who's being taken for a ride?

Take into account the following:
- If she stayed with her husband she would have been guaranteed a permanent visa.
- With me she would have to start the whole process again AFTER she eventually divorces from her current husband.

Looking forward to your advice (and/or criticism)
