One thing to remember though.

I dont think the 'love' comments by him were genuine.
I think that it was basically him fearing that she would leave.
He is very very manipulative. I have spoken to him. I know how he works.

He was 41.
So the age difference was even greater there.

Thanks for the welcome! In that case it's a little clearer. I would proceed but I would be a bit cautious, as LivingLOS says a person's past is not indicative of the future! Money grubbers are everywhere.
One thing I would like to ask, was her relationship with this guy already on the rocks when you met her?
