Imagine you are a salesman and you have been working on a deal for some time and at the eleventh hour some other blighter from your organisation steals the deal away from you and takes the commission. How do you feel?

So, in order to prevent this the BG has learned that one way is to inflict guilt on the customer so that he will stay loyal to her. She can then take the commision and send the money back home. However, it can then get more complicated when you add in the Thailand culture, particularly face. It is a slight blow to your ego to lose your salesman deal, it is a quadruple blow to a BG.

Now we add in the spiritual aspect. Many BG's are deeply spiritual and spend a lot of time in the temple doing quite boring things to make merit so that Buddha will assist them in their utopian quest. If they do actually meet a charming handsome man - sic all BM's - then they are hugely keen to hold on to him as the path seems clear to utopian happiness. A butterflying BM is therefore a massive hit on all four levels:

a) Loss of immediate income
b) Loss of face with family and friends.
c) Loss of potential marriage partner.
d) Feeling that Buddha is displeased in some way.

This should not be taken too lightly either. It has been known, sadly and almost inexplicably to us, that BG's have harmed themselves in despair as a result of a casual butterfly.
