Maybe the climate in Perth helps? I know that the English weather is a big issue to the girls I know over here.
Also, Western Oz is a lot closer to home, and home is a real big deal to them. I also believe that English\Asian couples, being still relatively unusual, stand out over here and that brings its problems too. Maybe people would not think a mixed race couple odd in Perth?
