Unfortunately void this is just a prime example of so called 'journalism' today and it is a worldwide problem. Real News just doesn't sell, controversy, sensationalism and getting a reaction from the reader (often negative as yours rightly was) is the aim.
Nothing so righteous as a 'journalist' with a non-story.
