You might want to check out Chiang Mai! Tons of Expats there. The people are nice, and it is dirt cheap. If being on the coast is not a factor, I would definitely check it out! Very interesting place. There is a big university there, and so a lot of foreigners come through there, and some stay. It doesn't have a big BG scene, but don't worry, there are lots of non-BG TGs, very cute, and they will find you!
If you like a laid-back town with a great beach, then LaMai might be the place.
